Is Travis Scott's Storm Storm Smoothie at Erewhon Worth the Hype?

At $22, you need to love citrus for the Travis Scott smoothie at Erewhon to seem justified. But the premium ingredient list adds value.

Disclosure/disclaimer: Sun Chlorella provided me with a gift card to cover the cost of the smoothie plus a nominal amount. I'm not a medical professional, nor is this article in any way intended to be health/medical advice, it's just for general informational purposes.

A rapper walks into a tonic bar. Or rather, Travis Scott has partnered with Erewhon on a $22 smoothie that looks like it was created in a Nickelodeon lab. While the price tag might scare off some consumers, the smoothie is packed with nutrients and high-quality ingredients that naturally give it an intergalactic look.

If you're a lemon-lime fan, Travis Scott's Storm Storm just might be the antidote to a sweltering summer. Personally, though, it was too citrusy for my taste, like it was a Sprite or Gatorade smoothie. But my toddler couldn't get enough of it.

Travis Scott's Storm Storm Smoothie Review: Pros and Cons

On the plus side, the Travis Scott smoothie at Erewhon, apparently named after his daughter Stormi that he had with Kylie Jenner, is a refreshing, fun drink that looks great and is packed with high-quality ingredients that you probably don't have lying around your house.

✅ Pros

  • 🍹 Refreshing
  • 🍍 High-quality ingredients
  • 🦚 Visually appealing

❌ Cons

  • 💸 Pricey
  • 🍋 Lemon-lime flavor can be polarizing
  • 🤔 Unclear nutritional facts

As for drawbacks, let's start with the price. $22 for a smoothie? In this economy? Of course, Erewhon caters to a wealthy demographic. And in terms of what's in the smoothie vs. the price, I think it's actually pretty reasonable, like how a premium glass of wine could easily cost that much. But it's definitely not a regular purchase for most.

Also, while some like the lemon-lime flavor, it's not really for me. I wish the citrus was toned down, because it overpowered some of the other tropical flavors I love, like banana and coconut.

And while the smoothie has an impressive ingredient list, it's hard to truly rate its health, given that Erewhon does not disclose the drink's nutritional facts. The proportion of things like maple syrup to spinach is unclear, which makes it hard to say if it leans more toward being a sugar bomb or a cup of greens.

Travis Scott's Storm Storm Smoothie Review: Category Ratings

Below, I'll rate the Travis Scott Erewhon smoothie across the following categories, with a final rating at the end weighted based on what tends to drive purchasing decisions (not a strictly scientific method, but I think a directionally relevant system):

  • Taste (2x weight)
  • Value (1.5x weight)
  • Health (1x weight)
  • Impact (0.5x weight)

Travis Scott Smoothie Taste: 5.5/10

Erewhon smoothie

To me, smoothies are kind of like pizza: they're always going to taste pretty good, but some are a lot better than others. Personally, I prefer other Erewhon smoothies like the Hailey Bieber one, which tastes like a strawberry milkshake. This Travis Scott Erewhon smoothie tastes more like a sports drink. It was decent, but not indulgent. It has a good consistency, though — not too thick or thin.

Travis Scott Smoothie Value: 5/10

Again, the $22 price creates sticker shock. But I do think that's balanced out in a few ways. One, it's an experience. I'm not saying it's a good financial decision to get $22 smoothies every weekend, but if you get that and an Erewhon sandwich, you're probably still in the ballpark of what a nice Sunday brunch in LA would cost you.

Moreover, the smoothie is packed with high-quality ingredients that would be pricey and inconvenient to assemble yourself. Because the exact ratios aren't disclosed, it's hard to say what it would cost to make the Travis Scott smoothie at home, but because there are a lot of premium, brand-name products here, not just a few bits of produce, that makes the Erewhon smoothie more worth it in my view.

Travis Scott Smoothie Health: 7.5/10

The lack of nutritional facts makes it hard to fully rate the smoothie's health benefits, and that's mainly what keeps this from a higher rating. That said, the Travis Scott Erewhon smoothie certainly seems healthy.

For one, there are some whole, organic ingredients in there, including pineapple, spinach, and banana. There's also things like the Magic Mind Mental Performance Shot if you're into nootropics, Cocoyo Piña Colada coconut yogurt for probiotics, and Sun Chlorella Powder that contains a wide range of vitamins and minerals.

I got the smoothie without the lemon-lime Ancient Nutrition Multi Collagen Advanced Hydrate so that it would be vegan, but if you did order it out how it normally comes, this powder would add some collagen and protein too.

Travis Scott Smoothie Impact: 7/10

An unspecified portion of the smoothie proceeds goes toward Travis Scott's Cactus Jack Foundation, which supports several youth educational programs in Houston. That's great, but it would be nice to see more specifics on the charitable impact here. A Hollywood Reporter article from 2023 does state that Erewhon donates $2 per drink sold, along with the celebrity getting a $1-per-smoothie royalty that they're encouraged to donate. But that doesn't necessarily mean that's always the case, and because exact amounts are not publicly disclosed, it's hard to say with certainty how much charitable impact there is here.

Still, the smoothie wins points for having several ingredients from mission-driven brands or ones that are generally trying to make a positive impact on the world. For example, the Agua de Kefir ingredient (similar to kombucha) and Cocoyo yogurt are both brands under the GT's Living Foods company. GT's has engaged in several sustainability initiatives, like around waste reduction. Ancient Nutrition is also a Certified B Corp and has done a lot of work to promote regenerative agriculture. Plus, Erewhon itself is a Certified B Corp.

Overall Rating: 5.9/10

Overall, the Travis Scott smoothie at Erewhon clocks in at a 5.9 out of 10, based on the aforementioned weighting. It's good but not great. If you love lemon-lime drinks, you'd probably rate this higher, but you also have to be willing to pay up for premium ingredients.

I don't think you're missing much by not trying it, but if you have the disposable income and want to compare this summery drink to some other Erewhon faves, it's a fun experience.
